A research on the thermal behavior of Heraklion city center is conducted by the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics of FORTH (Remote Sensing Lab - http://rslab.gr) in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
Summer School at FORTH: Laser technologies in Cultural Heritage analysis, diagnosis and conservation
For the 6th consecutive year, the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of FORTH is organizing the "OPTO-CH 2018" Summer School, entitled "Laser technologies in Cultural Heritage analysis, diagnosis and conservation". This year's Summer School focuses on issues related to the protection of Monuments against Climate Change and is being conducted within the framework of the European H2020 project HERACLES ("HEritage Resilience Against Climate Events on-site") (GA 700395).
“COMnPLAY SCIENCE: Learning science the fun and creative way!”
The Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science of FORTH participates in the COMnPLAY SCIENCE project that aims to help Europe better understand the new ways in which informal science learning is taking place through various coding, making, and play activities that young Europeans (children, adolescents and young adults) are nowadays increasingly engaged with, outside school and higher education science classrooms, beyond the formal boundaries of science education.
KardiaTool: For the diagnosis and therapy monitoring of Heart Failure patients
The Department of Biomedical Research of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology – Foundation of Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH-IMBB-BR) participates in the KardiaTool project funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program with € 4.9 M for the next 3.5 years. Fourteen partners from ten different countries, including universities, research centers and enterprises, participate in the project, providing the necessary experience to ensure the success of the project in all its stages of development.
Social Computing for Smart Cities Open Event and Summer School at FORTH
The Institute of Computer Science of FORTH (ICS/FORTH) hosts an open public event, on Wednesday 27 June, 10:30-12.30, at its campus in Heraklion Crete, entitled “Social Computing for Smart Cities”, in the context of the EC-funded project NOTRE – Network for Social Computing Research.
International scientific collaboration between IMBB-FORTH Researchers and Scientists in Paris, France uncovers a novel function of aspirin as a caloric restriction mimetic agent.
The findings of the study, published in the international scientific journal Cell Reports reveal a novel molecular mechanism underlying the beneficial effects of aspirin on healthspan.
FORTH ESTABLISHES THE INSTITUTE OF ASTROPHYSICS

Novel bioresorbable optical fiber sensors
Scientists from the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL), of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), Greece, and, the Politecnico di Torino, Italy demonstrated for the first time temperature sensors based on optical fibers designed to completely dissolve in biological fluids or water.

FORTH was ranked first (1st) among all Research Centers in Greece , 55th in Europe and 142nd Internationally, out of 7,953 Research Centers worldwide, according to the Global “Ranking Web of Research Centers”.
