A research team from the Technical University of Crete, the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), and the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) won the 1st place award in an international emotion recognition challenge using electroencephalography (EEG).

Nektarios Tavernarakis, Prof. of the Medical School of the University of Crete and Chair of FORTH, was unanimously elected President of the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC), for a four-year term starting in January 2025. He is the first Greek to hold this position.

Dr. Maria Charisi, Associated Research Fellow at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (IA-FORTH) and Assistant Professor at Washington State University, in the USA, has been awarded the 2024 L'ORÉAL-UNESCO Greek Award for Women in Science, in the field of Natural Sciences.

This honorary distinction is a significant recognition of Prof. Charmandaris' outstanding scientific accomplishments and contribution to education.

Dr. John Vontas, Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of FORTH and Professor of the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), along with Dr. Christos Delidakis, Principal Investigator at IMBB and Professor at the University of Crete, were elected as new members of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).

Professor Nektarios Tavernarakis stood out among a large number of extremely high-caliber Greek scientists from Universities and Research Centers, worldwide.

Panagiotis N. Moschou, Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) and Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, University of Crete is awarded a Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council (ERC).

The Healthcare Business Awards 2023 ceremony took place on Monday, October 23^rd 2023, in Athens, with the participation of distinguished representatives of the Healthcare sector, and more than 400 representatives of the pharmaceutical market, the Academic and scientific community, public benefit organizations as well as, patient associations, who gathered to honor exceptional contributions to Health, Science and Society, in the past year.

Ioannis Liodakis, a NASA postdoctoral fellow at the Marshall Space Flight Center, was recently awarded the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant.

Elena Anagnostopoulou, Professor of Linguistics at the University of Crete and Collaborating Faculty Member of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), has been selected for funding from the competitive European funding program ERC Advanced Grant 2022.
