FORTH attracts new funding from the European Research Council
Two ERC Starting Grants totaling approximately 3 million euros, were awarded to Dr. Anna Sydorenko and Dr. Konstantina Kalfa, post-doctoral researchers at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH).

The ERC Starting Grants are awarded to talented early-career scientists, who have already produced excellent work and show potential to be research leaders, to launch their own projects.
Dr. Yannis Spyropoulos, Researcher at the IMS, earned a highly competitive ERC Starting Grant.
ERC Starting Grants are awarded to early-career researchers of any nationality with two to sevenyears of experience since completion of the PhD (or equivalent degree) and a scientific track recordshowing great promise. This grant is a funding scheme that supports young talented research leaders to gain independence and build their own research team in Europe.
Dr. Apostolos Delis, Researcher at the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS), earned a prestigious ERC starting grant
Dr. Apostolos Delis has earned a prestigious Horizon 2020 European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant 2016. The program entitled Seafaring Lives in Transition. Mediterranean Maritime Labour and Shipping during Globalization, 1850s-1920s’ explores the transition from sail to steam navigation and the effects of this technological innovation on seafaring populations in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, between the 1850s and the 1920s, whose lives were drastically changed by the advent of the steam.
