A new Institute, the only in Greece dedicated exclusively to Astrophysics, will soon join the big family of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), becoming its 7th Institute, after a legislation voted in the Greek Parliament on February 26th 2018.

Scientists from the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL), of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), Greece, and, the Politecnico di Torino, Italy demonstrated for the first time temperature sensors based on optical fibers designed to completely dissolve in biological fluids or water.

FORTH is on the Steering Committee of a Future Emerging Technologies (FET) Flagship proposal, the Personalised Health Care Initiative in Europe. The Personalised Health Care Initiative is a large-scale scientific and technological proposal that will address the grand challenge of developing regenerative, precision and personalised medicine to improve the quality of life of billions of patients worldwide.

FORTH was ranked first (1st) among all Research Centers in Greece , 55th in Europe and 142nd Internationally, out of 7,953 Research Centers worldwide, according to the Global “Ranking Web of Research Centers”.
