This year, FORTH’s Institute of Astrophysics introduced the "Kylafis Lecture”, in recognition of the outstanding 35-year scientific and administrative contribution of the Emeritus Professor of the University of Crete and Collaborating Faculty Member of FORTH, Mr. Nikolaos Kylafis. His unremitting efforts to preserve and develop the scientific excellence in the field of Astrophysics, at FORTH and the University of Crete, have played a key role in the success of the Astrophysics team, which was recognized by the founding of FORTH’s Institute of Astrophysics in 2018.

The 12th FORTH Scientific Retreat, organized under the auspices of His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos, took place at the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (ICE-HT) in Patras, on October 15-16 2019.

The Hellenic Bioinformatics Scientific Society and the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) organized an International Conference entitled "Precision Medicine, Biodiversity and Genomic Biology" with the Region of Crete as co-organizing authority and sponsor.

The “Photonics Applications for Agrofoods and Environment Lab” of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of FORTH was honored with the “Best Oral Presentation” award at the international conference of "Instrumental Methods of Analysis-Modern Trends and Applications"

A delegation from Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI Nanjing-China), headed by the Vice-President of the Institute for Transatlantic Cooperation Paul Burrows, paid a two-day visit to FORTH, on September 26th and 27th, in order to sign a Memorandum of Understanding.

The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) jointly organised the 6th Network and Information Security (NIS) Summer School from 16- 20 September 2019 in Heraklion, Greece.

Visitors at the 84th Thessaloniki International Exhibition, from the 7th to 15th of September, had the opportunity to get acquainted with the research and achievements of FORTH at the booth of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology-Ministry of Development and Investments. In addition, on Saturday 7/9/2019, at the Ministry's event hall, the President of FORTH, Prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis gave a presentation entitled "Research and Innovation as Pillars of Regional and National Development: The Mission of the Foundation for Research and Technology". The lecture was part of the GSRT event:"The Footprint of Research in Society and Economy".

The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the Institute of Computer Science of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) jointly organise the 6th Network and Information Security (NIS'19) Summer School, which will be held between the 16th and the 20th September 2019 in Heraklion, Greece. The theme of the Summer School for this year is "Security Challenges of Emerging Technologies", referring to the security challenges and opportunities posed by new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, new Network Infrastructures (i.e. 5G), IoT applications, Machine Learning, etc.

Dr. Nikos Pasadakis Professor of School of Mineral Resources Engineering at Technical University of Crete was elected Director of the Institute of Petroleum Research of FORTH on August 01, 2019.

The Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of the Foundation for Research and Technology- Hellas (FORTH) and the Hellenic Society for Nanotechnology in Health Sciences (HSnanoHS) co-organize the first joint scientific conference on "Applied Nanotechnology in Health and Environmental Sciences, Safety, Quality and Efficiency - Regulatory Framework”.
