The 67th meeting of the governing body of the European Research Council (ERC), the ERC Scientific Council, held at FORTH’s premises 15-18 October 2018, was completed with great success.

The 1st Interdisciplinary International Conference on Nanotechnology and Bionanoscience “NanoBio 2018”, was successfully organized in Atlantis Aquila hotel, Heraklion, September 24-28 2018. The Conference was co-organized by Research Director Dr Emmanuel Stratakis, head of the Ultrafast Laser Micro- and Nano- Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser, FORTH and Prof. Emmanuel Kymakis, Department of Electrical Engineering, Technological Educational Institute of Crete.

The Department of Biomedical Research of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology – Foundation of Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH-IMBB-BR) participates in the InSilc project funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program with € 5.8 M for the next 3 years.

Research at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, published in the international scientific journal Cell Reports reveals a novel molecular mechanism that modulates protein synthesis to preserve protein homeostasis during ageing.

The International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC) of the International Council for Museums (ICOM) introduces and promotes documentation standards and processes of museum collections or other institutions and at the same time facilitates networking among curators, librarians and people engaged in recording, studying and managing collections.

A Program Agreement was signed on Monday 24 September by Prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH) and Prof. Udo Helmbrecht, Executive Director of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA), at the Historical Museum of Crete, in the presence of the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Post Offices, Dr. Vassilis Maglaras.

The first Climathon in Crete will take place on Friday October 26, 2018 at the Cultural Center of Heraklion.

FORTH honours the memory of Fotis Kafatos, almost a year since his passing, by organizing on 25 September the first in a series of annual Scientific Symposia.

The establishment of the Precision Medicine Unit of Crete was presented on Thursday September 13th, 2018 at 13:30 at an eventopen to the public.

The Foundation for Research and Technology will have a dynamic presence with four of its Research Institutes to this year’s International Fair of Thessaloniki from 8 to 16 September 2018, under the supervision of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (stand No 14).
