The 8th Symposium of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) will take place on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 in Rethimnon (Rithymna Beach Hotel).

The aim of this Symposium, which is held every two years, is to review the research activities of the seven Institutes of FORTH (located at Heraklion, Rethimnon, Patras and Ioannina), as well to develop and reinforce cooperation among the Institute's researchers in pursuit of modern scientific and research directions.
In this particular Symposium, special emphasis will be given to issues of interdisciplinary character, featuring at the cutting edge of scientific and technological research worldwide.
These issues include:

• Sensing and actuation: merging the physical and virtual worlds
• Energy and environment
• Systems biology

During the final session, a round table discussion will take place, in which the issues of communicating and funding research will be discussed. Participants will include prof. Charalambos Savakis (FORTH-IMBB and European Research Council), prof. Charalambos Doumanides (Univ. of Cyprus and National Science Foundation, USA) and Dr. Vassilios Tsakalos (IRC Help - Forward).
