EDIMO, coordinated by FORTH, advances cancer research and innovative therapies

Marking its two-year anniversary, the Hellenic Molecular Oncology Network (EDIMO) held a public event on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute in Athens. The event brought together representatives from Greece's research, academic, clinical and medical communities. It featured presentations on the network's research achievements and the molecular oncology services offered to patients with hereditary cancer syndromes, as well as hematological or solid tumors.

During the event, network members highlighted project progress and showcased the digital health systems supporting EDIMO's operations. Special attention was given to the completion of a digital repository for clinical and genetic data, which recently received an award at the Healthcare Business Awards.

To date, approximately 350 patient samples from oncology clinics across Greece have been analyzed in EDIMO's laboratories. Cutting-edge molecular oncology technologies, such as liquid biopsy techniques and DNA sequencing, have been employed, enabling personalized diagnoses and targeted treatments for cancer patients.

Speakers also emphasized EDIMO's support for young scientists. The project has created around 30 research positions across the network's eight partner institutions, while the digital data repository is expected to contribute to future doctoral dissertations and clinical research.
