Event in memory of late George Grammatikakis, who had served as a Professor and Rector at the University of Crete. The event was organized by the FORTH’s Friends Association.
On Monday, May 13, 2024, the FORTH’s Friends Association organized an event entitled: "Science, pseudoscience, conspiracy theories and democracy" at the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The event was organized in memory of late George Grammatikakis, who had served as a Professor and Rector at the University of Crete.
The following two speeches were delivered during the event:
- “Science and Democracy in unsettled times", by Mr. Stefanos Trachanas (Physicist-writer)
- "Bizarre theories, irrationality and postmodernity", by Vangelis Tzoukas, Doctor of Sociology
The event also included the nomination of Yannis Papamastorakis, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Physics - University of Crete, as an honorary member of the Association.
The 3000€ prize of the Heraklion Chamber was awarded to Theocharis Lambrou, PhD Candidate of the Physics Department at the UoC, on Quantum Optics and Strong Laser-Field Physics, who conducts his research at the Attosecond Science and Technology Lab of the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of FORTH.
