The European Digital Innovation Hub “smartHEALTH” successfully held its Annual Forum on January 17th and 18th, 2024, at the NCSR “Demokritos” to review its first year of operation.

The event showcased cutting-edge technologies, digital solutions, and applications for the healthcare sector, as well as the most significant results and initiatives of smartHEALTH.

The event was honored by the presence of the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accompanied by the Minister of Development, Mr. Konstantinos Skrekas, the Deputy Minister of Development, responsible for Research and Innovation, Mr. Maximos Senetakis, and the General Secretary of Research & Innovation, Mr. Athanasios Kyriazis.

During the event, the Prime Minister discussed with Prof. Dimitrios Plexousakis, Director of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS/FORTH) and coordinator of the smartHEALTH Hub, about the role of the Hub in the digital transformation of Health, and commented that the benefits expected are crucial for the Health ecosystem.

Additionally, a brief greeting on behalf of the Minister of Health was delivered by Dr. Aris Angelis, the General Secretary for Strategic Planning at the Ministry of Health, while the participants were welcomed by Dr. Georgios Nounesis, Director and President of the Board of Directors of NCSR “Demokritos”.

The two-day program featured keynote speeches by top experts, engaging presentations, and roundtable discussions on the implementation of new technologies in healthcare, along with interactive educational seminars in the following areas:

• Artificial Intelligence (AI)
• Cybersecurity
• High-Performance Computing
• Interoperability

Participants at the Annual Forum had the opportunity to exchange information, share ideas, and learn about technological innovations and business opportunities in the digital health sector. The event provided networking opportunities with representatives from the digital health ecosystem of the country.

The European Digital Innovation Hub “smartHEALTH” brings together leading research and innovation organizations in Greece’s digital health sector, with a vision to support small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, midcaps, and the public sector in addressing the contemporary challenges of digital transformation.
