Establishment of the Hellenic Digital Health Cluster (HDHC)

The Hellenic Digital Health Cluster - HDHC - was founded in March 2021 and is based in Athens, Greece. It is a dynamic initiative of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) that aims to include Greece among the leading countries in the field of digital health internationally. Its implementation and development are done by the Center for eHealth Applications and Services of the Institute of Computer Science and PRAXI Network of FORTH.

HDHC brings together the most important businesses and organizations in the field of digital health in Greece aiming at their further development, strengthening their potential for innovation and their extroversion. The vision of the company is the strengthening of the Greek Digital Health ecosystem, so that Greece can be included among the dominant countries in the field of digital health.

The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) was founded in 1983. It is one of the largest research centers in Greece with well-organized facilities, highly qualified personnel and a reputation as a top-level research institution worldwide. FORTH reports to the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Development and Investments. FORTH conducts specialized scientific research in strategic high-added value sectors, focusing on interdisciplinary research and development (R&D) activities in areas of major scientific, societal and economic interest, such as: Lasers and Photonics, Microelectronics, Advanced Materials / Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Precision Medicine, Systems Biology, Robotics, Telecommunications, Applied and Computational Mathematics, Chemical Engineering Sciences, Energy, Environment, Human and Social Sciences, Astrophysics and Astronomy. FORTH comprises eight Research Institutes. Its headquarters and central administration are based in Heraklion, Crete.

The main objectives of HDHC are:

  • Fostering cooperation, development of synergies and complementary partnerships
  • Networking among key stakeholders in the field of digital health
  • Supporting companies to attract funding
  • Promoting collaboration with national and international clusters and organizations active in the field of digital health
  • Supporting the development of a national digital health strategy

The main services offered by HDHC to both the members and the Greek ecosystem, aim at strengthening their networking, extroversion and entrepreneurship, as well as consulting to Greek companies operating in the field of digital health services.

The HDHC initiative is co-financed by the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship, Innovation” (EPAnEK) 2014-2020.

The HDHC website, https://hdhc.gr/, is the portal for informing the public and stakeholders about the identity, vision and goals of digital health innovation cluster, while also giving the opportunity to new partners and associates to communicate with HDHC and join, thus contributing to the strengthening of the Greek digital health ecosystem.
