Collaborating Researcher of FORTH elected Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics
Dr. Angelina Kouroubali, collaborating researcher of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), has been elected as a Fellow in the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics. The International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI, https://imia-medinfo.org/wp/iahsi).) is the Academy of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). The Academy serves as an honor society that recognizes expertise in biomedical and health informatics internationally. The Academy contributes to the improvement of global health through research, practice and education in health sciences informatics. The Academy stimulates progress in biomedical and health informatics research, education and practice, advises governments and organizations on developing health and health sciences through informatics, and shares and exchanges knowledge among members and stakeholders. Academy Membership is one of the highest honors in the international field of biomedical and health informatics. Elected fellows are recognized as leaders and promoters of the field and hold the title of Member of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics for life.
Dr. Angelina Kouroubali is a collaborating researcher at the Computational Bio Medicine Laboratory,FORTH-ICS. She holds a PhD in Health Informatics Management from the University of Cambridge Judge Business School, UK, a Masters in Medical Informatics from Columbia University, USA, and a Bachelor in Biology from Bard College, USA. Dr. Kouroubali has more than 20 years of professional experience in the field of Medical Informatics as principal investigator and researcher in international and national projects with several publications in peer reviewed journals and conferences. Her research interests include digital health, personalized health systems, electronic health records, interoperability and governance, emergency medicine, health tourism, complexity and innovation of health ecosystems.
She is the coordinator of the 4-star Reference Site of FORTH in the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Aging, representative of FORTH in the international organization ECHAlliance, research expert in the first fall prevention clinic in Greece of the general hospital of Heraklion “Venizeleio”, head of the Special Secretariat for International Relations and European Programs of the Hellenic Health Informatics Association,member of the experts committee of the Ministry of Health for the design of the National eHealth Interoperability Framework and representative of the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology to the National Board of eHealth Governance.
As team leader, she has participated in several innovation competitions and has received awards including best idea award in the Match & Develop a Startup 2020, highimpact award for the Smart Sense platform at the ESMARTCITY Datathon 2019, 1st prize for health impact for MINING “Medication misuse in old age” at the Athens Health Datathon 2019, 1rst prize for TimeIsBrain at Hacking Health Athens 2019, and winner of the SlideWiki International Open Course Competition 2018 for the creation of the educational program “Interoperability in eHealth”.
