Professor Tokatlidis elected as member of EMBO
Kostas Tokatlidis, Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Technology at the University of Crete and an affiliated Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Foundation of Research and Technology Hellas (IMBB-FORTH) has been elected as a member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO).
Prof Tokatlidis joins 51 other outstanding researchers who have been newly-elected to the organisation which promotes excellence in the life sciences. There are currently 1600 EMBO members and 59 Nobel laureates amongst the membership.
The goals of EMBO are to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers and help build a European research environment of scientific excellence
Prof Tokatlidis received this extremely prestigious election as a recognition of his dedicated, long-standing efforts and seminal findings on the fundamental mechanisms of how the cell’s powerhouses – mitochondria – assemble and function.
Professor Tokatlidis is the Head of the group of Mitochondria Biology at IMBB-FORTH (www.mitochodnria.gr) since 2003 and has published extensively in international journals of the highest impact. His research achievements have been recognized internationally and supported by competitive grants from the EU, MRC, BBSRC, The Wellcome Trust, The Leverhulme Trust, GSRT.. Professor Tokatlidis has received during his career several prestigious awards and fellowships (Fulbright, EU, EMBO, HFSPO, Roche Foundation, The Royal Society and The Lister Foundation).
