THEATRE2SEA – An experiential theatrical workshop

The European program THEATRE2SEA focuses on the specialized teaching of the developments within the European Union, regarding environmental pressures imposed on Mediterranean coastal communities. However, what makes THEATRE2SEA attractive and interesting is its innovative teaching method. THEATRE2SEA proposes an alternative, more engaging way of teaching and communicating both with the academic public and with other social groups as well.

On 24/5/2024, a lecture entitled "Impacts of Climate Change on Coastal Development and the Coastal Environment", and a 3-hour Applied Theater experiential workshop took place on a critical environmental issue concerning coastal Crete. The experiential way of teaching with the use of theater techniques broadens the ways in which we perceive and approach environmental issues and leads to the change of behavior towards environmental pressures.

In Rethymno, the action included two parts with a total duration of 4 hours:

  1. Lecture:"The impact of climate change on the development of coasts and the coastal environment", George Alexandrakis (FORTH Researcher), 13:00-14:00.
  2. Experiential Workshop,"If you can, so can I", Katerina Diakoumopoulou (Assistant Professor, NKUA), 14:15-17:15.

Place: Lecture Hall, Institute of Mediterranean Studies (IMS), 130 Nikiforou Foka & Melissinou, Rethymno
