FORTH-IESL Researcher Dr. Emmanuel Stratakis elected Fellow of Optica
Dr. Emmanuel Stratakis, Research Director at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas, was elected as a Fellow of Optica (formerly Optical Society of America, OSA) at the Society’s November 2021 Board of Directors meeting.
Fellow membership in Optica is limited to no more than ten percent (10%) of the membership and is reserved for members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics and photonics. The Optica Board of Directors recently elected 106 members from 24 countries to the Society’s 2022 Fellows Class. Fellows are selected based on several factors, including distinguished contributions to education, research, engineering, business and serving the community.
Dr. Stratakis is being honored specifically for “outstanding achievements and excellent leadership in both basic research and technology translation to industry applications for laser matter interactions in micro/nanoscale”.
Short Bio
Dr Emmanuel Stratakis is leading the “Ultrafast Laser Micro- and Nano- processing” laboratory at FORTH-IESL. He has over 250 SCI publications and more than 9000 citations, h-index=51 (Scopus), and he has coordinated many National and EU grants. He has delivered more than 40 invited and keynote lectures and has been organizer and chair in major international scientific conferences. He has been an Editor of the journals 'Optoelectronic Advances', 'Materials Today (Bio)', 'Applied Sciences' and 'International Journal of Molecular Sciences'.
Since 2015, he has been the Scientific Responsible of the European Nanoscience Facility of FORTH-IESL, part of the NFFA-Europe EU Infrastructure, where he also serves as a member of the General Assembly. He is a National expert in the High-Level Group of EU on Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology, Advanced Manufacturing and Processing. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of COST. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Biomimetic, a FORTH-IESL spin off company.
