Crete hosts the 2019 International Neurosciences Conference at Fodele Beach Hotel, 7-10 May 2019

With the active participation of the Foundation for Research and Technology- Hellas (FORTH), the prestigious International Neurosciences Conference of the European Organization for Molecular Biology (EMBO), entitled "Cell Biology of the Neuron: Polarity, Plasticity and Regeneration”, is held at Fodele Beach Hotel, from 7 to 10 May.

The aim of the conference is to present the latest scientific developments in the field of Molecular Neurobiology concerning the organization and functioning of the brain, connection and communication of neurons, memory and learning, etc. Extremely interesting scientific findings will be discussed about the mechanisms responsible for serious pathological conditions of the nervous system, such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes, and others. Recent research results on the potential for regeneration of nerve cells after a malfunction or injury as well as the mechanisms by which the nervous system perceives, processes and stores information from the environment will also be discussed.

The aim of the conference is also to promote Crete as a special scientific ecosystem, developing channels of cooperation with leading Research and Academic Institutes abroad. The high resonance and interdisciplinary character of the conference is a pole of attraction for internationally acclaimed scientists from top Universities and Research Centers abroad, which is a special honor for our island.

The conference is co-funded by the European Organization for Molecular Biology (EMBO, Germany) and hosts 22 distinguished invited speakers from internationally recognized Academic and Research Institutes abroad such as Harvard, Stanford, Cambridge Columbia (USA), Imperial (United Kingdom), Max Planck (USA and Germany), New York University (USA), University of Pennsylvania, USA, Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel), Utrecht University (Netherlands), Ludwig Maximilians University (Germany), VIB KU Leuven (Belgium), German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases University of Lausanne (Switzerland), and more than 150 internationally recognized scientists as well as young researchers from around the world who are active in the broad field of Neurosciences.

The conference is co-organized by Professor Nektarios Tavernarakis, President of the Foundation for Research and Technology- Hellas (FORTH), Professor of the Medical School of the University of Crete, and Research Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of FORTH, Prof. Claudia Bagni (University of Lausanne, Switzerland), and Prof. Frank Bradke (German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, Germany).
