The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH) establishes, as of the academic year 2007-2008, the award of distinguished undergraduate scholarships to the five (5) students that will be admitted to the Computer Science Department of the University of Crete having received the highest grades at the national university-entrance exams.

The Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics (IACM) of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH) organizes a 10-day summer school in Underwater Acoustics at FORTH (Heraklion, Crete) from 18 to 27 June 2008, in the framework of the Damocles project.

The opinion of the Conference of Chairmen is that the GTSI study constitutes an excellent base for National R&D Policy planning. The NanoMemCourse organizing committee invites applications from young researchers and engineers to attend the EC-funded Marie Curie Training Course "EF2: Nanostructured material and membrane modelling and simulation" that will take place from 18 to 27 June 2008 in Patras, Greece. The lectures will be delivered by international experts in the field.

The Conference goal is to bring together representatives from academic institutions, industry and public organizations with the aim of collecting, exchanging and promoting the Valorisation of Waste (municipal, industrial, agricultural, construction and demolition) to Energy (ethanol, hydrogen, biogas, biofuel, RDF, pyrolysis products,...) and Materials (raw, secondary and recycled materials).

A group made up of 35 Deputies and Scientific Experts, members of the European Parliamentary Technology Assessment Network (EPTA) from all the countries of the European Union, will visit FORTH and ENISA on Tuesday, 24 April 2007.

Research at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, published today in the international scientific journal Nature, revealed a novel molecular mechanism that modulates the process of ageing.

Today, Monday 15 January 2007, The Minister of Development, Dimitris Sioufas, inaugurated an exhibition representing the research activities of FORTH entitled "Innovative scientific and technological applications" in the exhibition hall of the Ministry of Development (Mesogeion Ave 119, Athens)

FORTH has been appointed by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology as one of the four National Contact Points of the Scientific Programme "People".

IMBB-FORTH takes part in a new research project of the European Union (budget: €14 million) focused on the development of innovative solutions for diabetes management. Diabetes is now evolving into an epidemic, affecting 120 million people about 1 million of whom are Greek.
