Crete hosts a prestigious International Neurosciences Conference of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO)
Τhe International Neurosciences Conference of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), entitled "Cell biology of the nervous system”, is held at the Fodele Beach Hotel in Crete, 5-8 May 2025, with the active participation and co-organisation of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas.
FORTH accepts proposals for the Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching in memory of B. Xanthopoulos-St. Pnevmatikos 2025
FORTH announces the 34rt call for the Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching in memory of Basilis Xanthopoulos and Stephanos Pnevmatikos. For 2025, proposals that fall under the thematic cycle of Social Sciences and Humanities are accepted.
The closing date is Friday 18 July 2025.
"Biotechnology in a Critical Era”. The event will be organized by FORTH’s Friends Association
FORTH’s Friends Association is organizing its first event of the year, within the framework of its established cultural and scientific activities, entitled "Biotechnology in a Critical Era." The event will tale place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 8:00 p.m., at the Heraklion Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Seminar: "Back to the Future- Reducing Atmospheric Particulate Matter Levels to Improve Human Health"
The Seminar will take place at the Conference Auditorium of the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT), Stadiou str.-Platani Patras, on Friday, April 9, 2025 (12.00).

The Contribution of FORTH’s Friends Association in promoting the research activities of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH)
The FORTH’s Friends Association was established in 2018, on the initiative of its President, philologist Professor Mr. Zacharias Karatarakis. The Association is governed by a 7-member Board of Directors with a four-year term. Since its founding, the Association established two annual awards, of 3,000 euros each:
A. The Miltiadis Karatzis Award and Β. The Heraklion Chamber of Commerce Award. These prizes are still awarded today to young researchers (PhD candidates, PhDs, Postdoctoral researchers) working in collaboration with FORTH. The winners are selected by a special committee set up for this purpose and the prizes are awarded during events that are open to the public and are organized twice a year.
Lecture by Gelina Harlaftis: Aristotle Onassis. The Myth and the History of Business Games
The Municipality of Rethymnon and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) are organizing for the year 2025 a series of lectures addressed to the general public of Rethymnon. In these talks, open to everyone, the Institute's researchers will present elements of their research work in an accessible way, followed by a discussion.
The third lecture titled "Aristotle Onassis. The Myth and the History of Business Games", will take place on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 19.00 by Gelina Harlaftis Director of IMS-ITE & Professor at the University of Crete.

Prestigious HFSP Research Grant Awarded to IMBB Researcher, Dr. Michail Kotsyfakis
Dr. Michail Kotsyfakis has been awarded a prestigious Research Grant from the 2025 Human Frontiers Science Program (HFSP) to investigate the eco-epidemiological dynamics of tick-borne pathogens, particularly the Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever Virus (CCHFV). The awarded project will receive $1.5 million in funding over three years.
Open Event at the New Bookstore of the Crete University Press, in Heraklion city center
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, Crete University Press (CUP), a unit of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), is organizing a celebratory event on Friday, March 28th at its new bookstore, housed within the Science and Cultural Center of FORTH, at the intersection of Zografou and Averof Streets, in Heraklion city center.
