The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is the backbone of the Internet. It is the routing protocol, known as the "glue" that holds the Internet together, which is extremely difficult to control and operate.

A recent article published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, led by Dr. Kostas Kouroumpatzakis, of the Institute of Astrophysics at the Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas (IA-FORTH), and the University of Crete, provides new insights into the connection between the X-ray luminosity of accreting black holes and neutron stars and the composition of the stellar populations they are associated with.

The Hellenic Digital Health Cluster - HDHC - was founded in March 2021 and is based in Athens, Greece. It is a dynamic initiative of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) that aims to include Greece among the leading countries in the field of digital health internationally.

Charalambos Makridakis, Professor of Numerical Analysis at the University of Crete and Professor of Mathematics at the University of Sussex, was re-elected Director of the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics of FORTH, on June 3, 2021.

Research carried out at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology-FORTH and published today in Nature Communications provides evidence that the XAB2 protein functionally links persistent DNA damage with the core spliceosome and the processing of R-loops, highlighting the functional links between genome maintenance and the splicing machinery in development or disease.

Dr. Dimitris Plexousakis, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Crete and Head of the Information Systems Laboratory (ISL) of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS), was re-elected Director of the Institute on May 18, 2021. His official appointment is expected in the next few weeks.
