KALEAO Ltd., a high-tech start-up company based in Cambridge, UK, and the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of FORTH, the Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas in Heraklion Crete, Greece, in cooperation with STEP-C, the Science & Technology Park of Crete, invite you to the Inauguration of the KALEAO-Crete Development Centre, to be held on Thursday 30 June 2016, starting at 16:00, in FORTH’s Amphitheatre.

FORTH – Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas, in Heraklion, Greece and KALEAO Ltd. – High Tech company based in Cambridge, UK – announced today the creation of the KALEAO's Heraklion development centre that officially seals their on-going collaboration towards a joint research lab on low power computing and shows a clear indication of the growing international high-tech involvement in Crete, Greece. The centre is going to be inaugurated on the 30th of June in Heraklion.

On Friday 20th May 2016, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ancient DNA Laboratory, the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) – FORTH, had an International Meeting titled “Ancient DNA Analysis: A new view in the past”, in which invited experts in the topics of Ancient DNA Analysis, Paleoanthropology, Archaeology and Archaeogenetics, presented recent developments in the field. The formal opening of the new Ancient DNA laboratory was done by the Alternate Minister of Research and Innovation, Prof. Costas Fotakis and Vice Governors of the Region of Crete.

The call has now opened for the 26th Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching in memory of Vassilis Xanthopoulos and Stephanos Pnevmatikos, both professors at the University of Crete and members of the Foundation for Research & Technology (FORTH).

Nektarios Tavernarakis, a researcher at the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), has recently been awarded for the second time the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Investigator Grant for his research proposal titled “MacroAutophagy and Necrotic Neurodegeneration in Ageing”.

The Municipality of Heraklion in cooperation with Institute Of Computer Science of FORTH (Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas) implements the EU-funded project RERUM "Reliable, and secure Internet of Things applications for smart cities» (REliable, Resilient and secUre loT for sMart city applications -RERUM) under FP7 (7th Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration), from 09.01.2013 until 08.31.2016.

The international team of NFFA-Europe, a research infrastructure funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Programme, will convene in Milano, Italy, on 12th April, to mark the start of operation of the first full suite of key infrastructures for nanoscience research to the public.

A two-day scientific workshop on Quantum Technologies is organized within the framework of the “Greek-Russia Year 2016” and will be held on April 1st and 2nd, 2016 at the NCSR “Demokritos”.
