"Smart Specialization Strategies and the Quadruple Innovation Helix” by Elias G. Carayannis Professor of Science, Tehnology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Prof. Stelios Tzortzakis from the IESL-FORTH has been invited to officially open the Optics 2013 conference in St. Petersburg last October with a plenary lecture, followed by a short ceremony where he was awarded the Rozhdestvensky Medal of the Russian Optical Society for key contributions in strong laser and THz field Optics. The Medal was delivered by the Russian Academician E. B. Alexandrov.

The European Patent Office (www.epo.org)and the Greek Industrial Property Organisation (OBI, www.obi.gr), in collaboration with Science & Technology Park of Crete and PRAXI HELP-FORWARD network, are organizing a Workshop entitled: "Patenting Inventions: From Idea to Commercialization".

“Industrial Technologies 2014 - Smart Growth through Research and Innovation” conference is organised under the Greek Presidency of the European Council during the first semester of 2014, in Athens on April 9-11th 2014, in Athens Megaron Conference Hall. The event is under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Research & Technology (GSRT) and is supported by The European Commission Directorate for Research and Innovation.

The Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser of FORTH organized the 5th Annual Meeting of the Climate for Culture project that was held on the grounds of FORTH, Heraklion Crete, Greece on September 23-27 2013. The CLIMATE FOR CULTURE project estimates the impacts of changing climate conditions on historic buildings and their vast collections in Europe and the Mediterranean.

FORTH participated in the Researcher’s Night which is the greatest European-wide celebration of science and research.

Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are considered as a promising solution for providing scalable, ubiquitous, reliable and cost-effective broadband access in rural environments.

Nektarios Tavernarakis was elected on Saturday, September 21, in the position of the Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, at the Foundation for Research and Technology, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Dr. Tavernarakis has been heading the Neurogenetics and Ageing laboratory of the Institute, and is an elected Excellence Professor of Molecular Systems Biology at the Medical School of the University of Crete.

The Department of Applied Mathematics of the University of Crete, the Archimedes Center for Modeling, Analysis and Computation (ACMAC) and the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics – FORTH organized the International Conference on Applied Mathematics that was held on the grounds of FORTH, Heraklion, Crete, Greece on September 16 – 20, 2013.

The German Ambassador, Mr. Wolfgang Dold, visited FORTH on Monday, September 16th.
