Nektarios Tavernarakis, Researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) and Professor at the Medical School of the University of Crete, is one of just 45 scientists from across Europe, and the only one in Greece, that recently secured funding from the innovation-supporting Proof of Concept Programme of the European Research Council (ERC).

The Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) organizes the 2nd Israel-Greece Joint Meeting on Nanotechnology and BioNanoscience (http://www.iesl.forth.gr/conferences/ignbn2016/), in collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Dr. Apostolos Delis has earned a prestigious Horizon 2020 European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant 2016. The program entitled Seafaring Lives in Transition. Mediterranean Maritime Labour and Shipping during Globalization, 1850s-1920s’ explores the transition from sail to steam navigation and the effects of this technological innovation on seafaring populations in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, between the 1850s and the 1920s, whose lives were drastically changed by the advent of the steam.

The integrity of monuments, historical centers and archaeological landscapes is nowadays increasingly threatened by the climatic change, the extreme meteorological phenomena and the natural hazards.

Dr. Vassiliki Nikoletopoulou, Researcher at the IMBB, earned a highly competitive ERC starting grant. This grant is a funding scheme that supports young talented research leaders to gain independence and build their own research laboratory in Europe. The research interests and expertise of Dr. Nikoletopoulou bridge over the fields of neurobiology and metabolism.

FORTH is participating in the 81st Thessaloniki International Fair, from 10 to 18 September, under the umbrella of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology, with exhibits by the Institutes of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Computer Science and Chemical Engineering Sciences, at the Pavilion P15GF.

HOBBIT project started in December 2015, and focused so far on the architecture and development of the Benchmarking Platform architecture and development, as well as Community building.
