The 2024 L'ORÉAL-UNESCO Greek Award for Women in Science, in the field of Natural Sciences was awarded to Maria Charisi, Institute of Astrophysics, FORTH
Dr. Maria Charisi, Associated Research Fellow at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (IA-FORTH) and Assistant Professor at Washington State University, in the USA, has been awarded the 2024 L'ORÉAL-UNESCO Greek Award for Women in Science, in the field of Natural Sciences.
A Three-Dimensional Atlas of the Milky Way
ERC funds scientists to map Galaxy in 3D: Torsten Enßlin (Max Planck Inst. for Astrophysics), Philipp Mertsch (RWΤΗ Aachen University) & Vasiliki Pavlidou (Inst. of Astrophysics-FORTH), have been awarded a highly competitive European Research Council Synergy Grant) aiming to create the first three-dimensional, comprehensive atlas of our Milky Way galaxy.

Searching for new solutions to control malaria mosquitoes: IMBB-FORTH in Greece receives funding for the discovery of novel solutions for control of the malaria mosquitoes
The Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas in Greece (IMBB-FORTH) announced the initiation of a three-year research project to be carried out at IMBB-FORTH, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The project aims to develop innovative insecticides for the control of malaria mosquitoes and will be carried out by John Vontas, Director of IMBB-FORTH and Professor at the Agricultural University of Athens, and his team.
New Director of the Greek Institute of Human Genomics (GIHG)
Mr. Panagiotis Deloukas, Professor of Cardiovascular Genomics and Director of the William Harvey Research Institute at the Queen Mary University London, was unanimously elected Director of the Greek Institute of Human Genomics (GIHG), on June 4, 2024.
